What is neurodiversity-affirming editing?
Neurodivergent writers are a natural match for neurodivergent editors. It’s the best of both worlds: not only do you get the benefit of my unique blend of neurodivergent traits (pattern recognition, hyperlexia, hyper focus, special interests, to name a few), I can also tailor my approach to your unique needs, affirming your ND identity as valid and safe.
This means you can:
Have your writing assessed in an accepting, non-judgemental environment where you can safely express your needs—without worrying that you’re giving me too much context or not enough eye contact.
Work with an editor (me!) who values clear, kind, direct communication, and with whom you can unmask, if desired.
Meet via your preferred method (email, phone, or video).
Choose your feedback format based on how you best process information:
For those who need to know WHY, I can give feedback with detailed explanations
If you’re overwhelmed by too much information, I can pare it back to just the actionable essentials
I can give examples, or not, depending on how you best absorb information
Reports are clearly organized and notes can be color coded by category
Receive gentle reminders or check-ins if requested.
I also offer:
Body doubling and writers groups (coming soon!) to bring ND writers together.
Strategies and suggestions on writing with executive dysfunction and rejection sensitivity dysphoria based on lived experience and discussions with other ND writers.
Compiled resources for neurodivergent writers and resources for indie publishing; I’ve done the research so that you don’t have to.
If you know of a way I can best support you, tell me about it. I want to facilitate the best experience for you and your needs.
My goal is to help you communicate your authentic voice to your audience. Do you need support with your writing? Contact me at rachel@authenticselfediting.com.
